'Mike Huckabee won’t be talking to himself anymore.'

Inside Radio lede on Cumulus pits Huckabee against Limbaugh: "Three years after launching a daily commentary, the former presidential candidate will host a daily talk radio show. Cumulus Media will launch the three-hour program April 2 in a timeslot dominated by Premiere Radio’s Rush Limbaugh."

  3. Huckabee is witty and congenial.  Rush is witty and confrontational.  Confrontational wins.  That, plus inertia of listening habits, means Huckabee will do what Pat Buchanan and Bill O'Reilly did before him:  not even make a dent going head to head with Rush.  Still, if he gets 2 or 300 stations (O'Reilly had over 400), Mike could make Cumulus money.  But Rush remains king, with 670 affiliates.

  4. I concur, Jim.  The NYT and others are indulging in wishful thinking praying that somebody could knock off Rush.  Yeah, look what happened to O'Reilly.  No radio show anymore.

I was reading the message board on Radio-Info.  A couple commenters alluded to Rush being ill.  You heard anything?  Like Huckabee's in the wings . . .

  5. Huckabee's made out like a bandit since his 2008 presidential run.  Fox pays him enough so he could built a multi-million dollar manse in FL where he now lives.  I wonder how much Cumulus is paying him to do this syndicated radio gig?  Rush makes tens of millions a year...

  8. Cumulus seems to be replacing popular shows with their own programming i.e. Coast to Coast with Red Eye Radio.  Do you think they will replace Rush at all the stations they just bought with Huckabee?

  9. Cumulus is replacing shows syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks (owned by rival Clear Channel) with Cu.mulus product. George Noory's show is Premiere out of Sherman Oaks, CA.  Huckabee's station fees are far cheaper than Rush.

I can't speculate on what Cumulus plans to do re:  Rush.

  10. Thanks Marty.  Just worried about changes cuz my local station was bought by Cumulus and already lost Coast to Coast.  Don't want to lose Rush or Hannity but looks like they are with Premiere so I guess it's possible.

  11. Definitely possible. Go to DCRTV.com for discussion boards. My friend, Dave Hughes, runs it. You'll find a lot of opinions in Dave's ”mailbag.”
