NBC spent millions on the buildup to Brian Williams's Rock Center. Ratings have sucked big time since the newsmag's Halloween debut.  Sucked to the point where NBC artificially enhanced the number of eyes watching by counting more than 7 mil viewers of a recent NBC-hosted Repub debate -- dramatically boosting ratings for a "Special Edition" of Rock Center.

Now, as NYT's media star Bill Carter headlines, NBC Spends Millions on the Buildup to 'Smash' -- Rock Center's 10p Monday replacement in NBC's impotent prime time lineup. Brian moves to (maybe) better ratings real estate Wednesday. 9p. Why?  Screaming NBC affiliates pissed at NBC's lousy lead-in to their 11p local news.
