NBC's 'Long-standing commitment to localism.'

Your cups runneth over.
NBC pours on Comcast's "localism" FCC merger grease by paying off donating unspecified dough to four liberal non-profit news orgs to beef up NBC TV stations' local news coverage. B&C  Brian Stelter NYT

It was much easier for Comcast NBC to hand off the local news pain in the ass rather than fail miserably (as one liberal org found) meeting the terms of the merger deal.

Related:  FCC 2007 localism rule.  FCC = media regulation = localism = diversity = minorities = liberal spin = more media regulation.

Did the FCC localism zealots "pressure Comcast" into pushing the FCC's majority members' pet rule?  Comcast knew what it took to get the NBC merger deal through the FCC amid potential cries of protest from the likes of Al Sharpton. Canny Comcast got opportunist Sharpton on board the merger train by dangling an MSNBC show.  In July Al denied there was a quid pro quo.  Brian Stelter NYT
