Tapper had warmed Christiane's chair after George's exit. Tapper was becoming a '"favorite son," marveled then-Wash Post TV critic Tom Shales "even as the clock ticked his interim tenure away and the Grand Duchess Amanpour approached on her royal barge from overseas.” The Post's Lisa de Moraes notes Jake and Christiane pulled in the same number of eyes.
The ratings dropped in the year and a half Christiane shuttled from NYC to DC to front the Sunday show. NYDN
Everything should be Jake. Why ABC recycled Stephanopoulos rather than taking a chance on Tapper? Safe. Ratings. Gives George a GMA out.

part of the Washington party circuit where journalists build
relationships with sources and trade tips and takes on the news. To accommodate her, the show’s producers at one point even considered
moving the show to New York, according to several sources – an
arrangement that would make it much harder for in-studio interviews with
political newsmakers."

Would anyone really want to party with her? Can't stand her, or her better half. Tapper should have gotten that gig, shame on ABC.
ReplyDeleteWhat is it with the broadcasting Peter Principle? She's good at digging out overseas stories. Period.
ReplyDeleteWhy must executives always try to take someone good at A., and promote them to B., C., and D.?
The suits don't want to admit they fucked up!

The reason Georgie got the gig is to help carry Barry's sorry butt across the finish line next year.Plain and simple. ABC couldn't take a chance on Jake going rogue and showing Barry to be the empty suit he is.
ReplyDeleteThen they should start fucking down!
ReplyDeleteJake is obviously too balanced for ABC. Even a true conservative as myself found the show worthwhile when he hosted before the bore assumed the reins.
