Farewell, My Lovely

Match the quote with the writer:  (A) New York Times.  (B) Raymond Chandler.
1.    She wheeled the body into the embalmer’s office and left it next to a pair of unclothed waxy bodies stitched up like handbags. . . . As usual, she had her fuel: an extra large Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, mugs of fudge-flavor diet soda, and her electronic cigarette. And as usual, she wore a form-fitting knit dress and matching pumps. She was painting her long nails purple to match them.

2.     She gave me a smile I could feel in my hip pocket.

3.     From thirty feet away she looked like a lot of class.  From ten feet away she looked like something made up to be seen from thirty feet away.
4.     Her two Cadillacs were parked outside the funeral home, on Fourth Avenue near the Green-Wood Cemetery: her 1978 silver hearse and her 2009 XLR coupe. The coupe gets a lot of whistles. The hearse is good for errands because it doesn’t get parking tickets. . . .  She has had two serious relationships, but both men died. She handled their wakes and funerals, and even prepared the bodies for viewing.

5.    Dead men are heavier than broken hearts.

6.    “I’m not stupid. Don’t let the blond hair fool you.”

  3. Yeah, call me crazy, but I found this absolutely hilarious!  Her name is Doris Amen, NYC undertaker.  I laughed my ass off at the manner in which the NYT wrote this thing yesterday.

Chandler, Mickey Spillane, Dashiell Hammett are three of my favorite authors.  Have read all Chandler and Hammett.
