CNN unveils cable TV's worst-kept secret: the retooling of ratings-cursed American Morning in all its varied incarnations. It's Back To The Future as Soledad O'Brien is recycled to anchor what CNN is billing "a new conversational ensemble program" 7-9a debuting in 2012. (In 2007 CNN jettisoned Soledad and her unrelated namesake, Miles O'Brien, for John Roberts and ex- Fox News eye candy Kiran Chetry.) Roberts later left for Fox; Chetry left last summer for Parts Unknown. Read the press release.
Ashleigh Banfield, with a resume as long as Keith Olbermann's, is on 5-7a duty. Banfield used to be on MSNBC until she pissed off suits and was dispatched to NBC's equivalent of the former Soviet Union's Gorky. See CNN's Musical Chairs.
