Deadline finds: (a) Over a decade ago Ailes revisited Matthews whom he'd hired to host a cable show 17 years ago in 1994 pre-Fox; (b) Fox News, founded by Ailes in 1996, is consistently #1, creaming rivals MSNBC and CNN; (c) Fox hadn't reached its ratings zenith when Ailes approached Matthews.
A Fox suit muses aloud, "Where would we put [Matthews] now? Maybe as a lead-in to Red Eye."
Matthews, nearly 70 now, lost the thrill up his leg in October when Fox's 3a show Red Eye smoked Hardball in the golden 25-54 demo ratings. Deadline

ReplyDeleteAND he gets nearly top tier pay for each speech he makes. I think I've got the storyo somewhere if you click the Chris Matthews label. Maybe 30 grand a speech. I did the story recently. Christiane Amanpour makes $40,000 plus as well as Ariana Huffington. Washington Speakers Bureau. Fee rates are numbered. 6 (Arianna), 5 (Matthews) and so on.
