I met Robert in 1973 when he and now-departed Ike Pappas camped out in the newsroom at the CBS affiliate where I was working in Detroit. Don't recall the story. Both were great guys. Didn't blow into town with Network TV egos. Sunday Bob Schieffer recalled Bob's stellar career:
