NYDN's Mike Lupica: Herman Cain and the men running against him are probably afraid to be
seen anywhere near Zuccotti Park. But the President - who did make big
promises to those camped out at Broadway and Cedar about a better
country and a better future - shouldn't be afraid of the people down
here, or their message. Once he seemed to speak directly to people like this. Four years
later, he needs to listen to them. Come to them before they come looking
for you.

Granted, it's not fair to judge a movement just by its fringe element. But it's very fair to judge that movement by how it treats it's extreme fringe. Unless the movement marginalizes the extreme, and distances itself from it, you can expect the extremists to co-opt much of the message.
