CNN's Eliot Spitzer seat-filler Rick Sanchez weaves his latest racist gaffe: Monday Rick referred to Obama as the 'cotton-picking president.'
After apologizing, Rick retorted he picked up the phrase growing up in the land of cotton.
As for Rick's 8p ratings, Rick's listing. CNN's lowest 8p numbers in three years. Business Insider

Being "PC" has gone to the ridiculous. Every comment, every misspoken phrase or word is not a reflection of the speaker's racism, anti-just about anything or a reason to be horrified. Ease up, people.
ReplyDeleteNot sticking up for Sanchez here, because I think he's dumb. However, cotton-pickin' really isn't racist, although nowadays everyone tends to be super-sensitive.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up in the deep South (Alabama), we used it as "Just wait a cotton-pickin' minute there, ..." It really wasn't referring to anyone.
However, it this was utter by someone at Fox News, it would hit the fan.
Where in the south is Sanchez from; I didn't know he was from the region.
His Wikipedia page states.
ReplyDeleteSanchez was born in Guanabacoa, Cuba. The son of Cuban political exiles who came to the United States in the 1950s from Cuba, Sanchez grew up in the city of Hialeah, Florida.
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I've never really considered Miami as "the South." It's not the same as cities in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama - even some parts of Florida. The panhandle is quite different from Miami.
That's right! With a common sense approach, bigotry won't have a chinaman's chance!
ReplyDeleteFor 120 years, the Confederate flag was a symbol of pride for Southerners. then the Jackson/Sharpton et al people started using it for their divisive political agenda. It is now a symbol for racism.
ReplyDeleteAnd he also claims to possess a college degree. I've been meaning to ring up the University of Minnesota after I saw somewhere that the slug didn't get that diploma. Somebody call the registrar's office there.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'm in the south - Charleston, S c - waitin' for my cotton-pickin' grandson to pop out.

We have a threadwinner!!! Good one Jimbo!
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh, yes...Hialeah..I've heard the cotton fields simply overwhelm the landscape
ReplyDeleteNeed to make her an eggplant dish. It helps.
ReplyDeleteReally? How?

Something in it can trigger labor. There's a restaurant in Atlanta that's known for their eggplant dishes and births of babies. Pregnant women who are past their due date, eat her and go into labor later that night or in the morning.
ReplyDeleteBut it's something with eggplant. Long walks can also help, that is if she feels like walking.
OMG! And where is the outrage from sharpton and all the rest of them, agree with southerngal that it really isn't a racist remark also being from the south, but if anyone on fox had said that then it would have been racist and we would have been hearing about it non-stop
