CNN's Rick 'Tase me, bro' Sanchez is blissfully unaware of the AP Stylebook - the Bible for Real Journalists and writers. To the uninitiated such as Sanchez, the Stylebook (I have several at the ready) has served as the style arbiter of all things journalism since 1953.
Stylebook 2010 adds Rick's favorite 'social media' - Twitter and the like. And new words and variations thereof. 'Web site' is now 'website.'
'Mic' is the accepted short form for 'microphone.'
'Breathalyzer' is in as well as 'Alcoholics Anonymous.'
'Taser' is in but not 'tase.'
'Taser' is in but not 'tase.'
