MSNBC's Joe Scarborough disagrees with his liberal colleagues Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews after the pair panned Obama's Oval Office oil oratory Tuesday night.
Joe likened the BP crisis to the 1979 American hostage seizure by Iranian "students" and the birth of Ted Koppel's ABC "America Held Hostage" day 393.
Day 59. A clearly piqued Keith Olbermann: "I don't think he aimed low. I don't think he aimed at all. It's startling." A unthrilled Matthews accused Obama of lacking "command and control" on Wednesday's 'Morning Joe,' and resorting to the disaster as a clarion call much like the Russians' Sputnik which forced America to play catch up in the space race. Matthews: "A Sputnik moment."
But 78% of New York Daily News readers responding to an online poll think Obama was "impressive" and "has a handle on the crisis."
Via Real Clear Politics:
Olbermann: "It was a great speech if you were on another planet for the last 57 days."
Matthews compared Obama to Carter.
Olbermann: "Nothing specific at all was said."
Matthews: "No direction."
Howard Fineman: "He wasn't specific enough."
Howard Fineman: Obama should be acting like a "commander-in-chief."
Matthews: Ludicrous that he keeps saying [Secretary of Energy] Chu has a Nobel prize. "I'll barf if he does it one more time."
Matthews: "A lot of meritocracy, a lot of blue ribbon talk."
Matthews: "I don't sense executive command."
Fox News political analyst Charles Krauthammer tells Bill O'Reilly that the government is not "omnipotent," is "fallible," and "inherently uncoordinated" to marshal an unprecedented environmental disaster of this proportion - and throwing money at it won't make it go away.
What the liberals wanted and didn't get from Obama were "specifics" on the WH wizardry planned to free America from the chains of foreign oil, and a stern vow to ram through cap and trade.
NYP: 'Prez wields sludge hammer'
'Junk Shot' sizzled an angry Huffington Post. Blogger Jason Linkins cranked out a crude, snarky piece ending with his only credible thought amid Lenny Bruce free association shpritzing: One very specific action Obama could have taken tonight was to make it clear that BP's ongoing clampdown on the media attempting to cover the oil spill was not to be tolerated and must end immediately.
As proof of Obama's abandonment of the liberal environmental agenda, the blog posted Obama's video and speech transcript. AND an Associated Press fact check.
During the campaign and the post-inaugural honeymoon, the liberal media expected Obama to walk on water. Now they expect him to walk on oil.
NYTimes columnist Maureen Dowd post-speech: "You know the president is drowning — in oil this time — when he uses the Oval Office."

like most "condemned" men looks like he found religion.
ReplyDeletewe all know that this won't last long, they'll forgive him. think I will email dowd and tell her for once I agree with her that he is drowning but in that desk he was sitting in.
ReplyDeleteWe'll know things are serious if Hillary starts making speeches in Iowa and New Hampshire.
