Lost in translation, spins a BP flack: the company's Swedish chairman's "we care about the small people" remark to the press after Wednesday's WH meeting.
He apologized. Read BP CEO Tony "I want my life back" Hayward's 11-page testimony to be delivered today before a House Energyand Commerce subcommittee.
Cue Randy Newman's controversial (at the time) hit 'Short People' from his 1977 album 'Little Criminals.' Short people got no reason to live . . .
Here is another take on it:

I know it's Kick-BP week, but come on! This guy's accent means he has no sense of such linguistic nuance in english. He meant well and I'd cut him some slack on this one.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I didn't take offense at his "small people" comment because it was so obvious what he meant. Everybody is ready to crucify these people for any perceived slur, but the dude is just not up to snuff with our lingo.
ReplyDeleteI knew what he meant, did not bother me at all, why do I always feel sorry for these guys, I mean the hearing today was crucify them, they have no hearts, do they really think this ceo likes what is happening, I even understand what he meant when he said he wanted his life back also like everyone else, back to normal, so what if he's loaded, he just wants to go back home to his family and get these people paid what is due them. that waxman { pig man} is such an pompous jerk, bp has to do the right thing and I'm sure they will, obama is no better.
ReplyDeleteIt was condescending - it's true he wasn't familiar with the lingo, he meant "little people" so who was he around that kept referring to the little people? Tony "I want my life back" Hayward - The President of the United States?
ReplyDeleteI bet there are a lot of "little people" in the Gulf who would like their lives back too...and they didn't create the worse man made natural disaster in this country's history.
NO I don't give them any slack they shat the money bed, and they want us to what? Feel sorry for them? This ain't political, I don't care which side Republicans and Democrats come down on.
They can lick up that spill for all I care about BP's CEOS.
