The Washington Post enlists former Bush speechwriter and conservative David Frum to review Rush Limbaugh-annointed "Army Of One" scribe Zev Chafets: Chafets exposes some disconnects between Limbaugh's private life and public presence. Chafets has seen more of the pundit's personal world than any other journalist, and reveals some distinctly grandiose tastes in this self-imagined tribune of Middle America.
Limbaugh has skillfully conjured for his listeners a world in which they are disdained and despised by mysterious elites -- a world in which Limbaugh's $4,000 bottles of wine do not exclude him from the life of the common man.
Frum reviewing a book on Rush Limbaugh is like Keith Olbermann reviewing Glenn Beck's latest tome.
Wonkette, in March 2009, on Frum's anti-Rush Newsweek piece: "... the GOP Death-Fart Ultimate Fighting Murder Match continues! David Frum, annoying former George W. Bush speechwriter but generally inoffensive conservative, uses the pages of Newsweek to kick a couple of new assholes in Rush Limbaugh, because why not? Frum’s mouth-breathing detractors will note that he’s no longer officially a wingnut because he left the National Review after acknowledging that Sarah Palin is a moron and John McCain is a loser. And the Republicans continue to hilariously finish themselves off in a bitch fight over the grotesque carnival pig Rush Limbaugh, the end."
The Hill has a few choice quotes. Rush reviles Fox's Bill O'Reilly as a "Ted Baxter."
Funny, that's the only thing Rush and MSNBC's Keith Olbermann have in common. Both compare O'Reilly to the stiff, swaggering, narcissistic, grandiose Ted played by the late actor Ted Knight.

What's the Rush-Frum pissing match all about? They're not that far apart philosophically.
ReplyDeleteEgo? Media buzz?
ReplyDeleteSo, let me get this straight. Wonkette, a blog that no one reads or cares about, is touting a piece by a "generally inoffensive" author (aka RINO), in a newsmagazine that is dwindling in, if not bereft of, influence. Yet this piece is about an unauthorized-yet-tolerated biography of the most listened-to man in America (who happens to be a conservative thought leader and entertainer).
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that there is a long line of nothings trying to climb up the peak of a really big something.
Further, let's not begrudge Rush his expensive wine and other luxuries. The difference between Rush and the liberal elite is that Rush is enjoying the fruits of his success, and he wishes everyone else could be successful too; while the liberal elites want to enjoy their success by exclusivizing their enjoyment. "Pity the downtrodden who are not smart enough to be as successful as we are. We should make sure they stay down, because they don't possess the intellect to be able to truly appreciate the benefits of our niceties."
Wonkette could only dream of the success Rush has gotten over the years. Whether you like it or not, folks will remember Rush LONG after Wonkette has passed on to the blog netherworld.
ReplyDeleteFrum voted for Obama didn't he? He used to be a conservative. He's gone to the dark side now.
ReplyDeleteIn a new biography on sale Tuesday, Rush Limbaugh calls fellow conservative talk show host Bill O’Reilly a “Ted Baxter” — after the fictional character on the “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” who was portrayed as a vain, shallow, buffoonish TV newsman.
ReplyDeleteNow, I haven't read the book, and I am inclined to give Rush the benefit of the doubt. The text from The Hill article did NOT say that Rush thought of O'Reilly as a vain, shallow, bufoonish TV newsman. (btw, I'll give you vain and shallow, but not bufoonish) Those were The Hill's words. One could make the case that Ted Baxter represents an old school type of anchor, perhaps polyanna-ish, vain - but purely professional in his own mind.
If Rush does have any dislike for O'Reilly, it is unwarranted. O'Reilly was not able to come close to Rush's success on the radio, and Rush gave up on trying to conquer TV (as Bill has done for 9(?) years running) a long time ago. If they teamed up to form a politico-entertainment enterprise (starring Sarah), they would conquer the world - at least 35-64.
wellington totally agree with you on this one. everyone knows frum is a rino, and one of those he himself just talked about want all of washington to like him especially the elite libs
