Scarborough Fare: Whacks Imus & NewsBusters On Twitter

Get over it already, Scarborough. Hamlet Act II: The lady doth protest too much, me thinks.  His bizarre, obsessive, ego-driven tweets in response to Imus crowing about the death of Joe and Mika's WABC Radio show are treading on Keith Olbermann's toxic Twitter turf.

Let me reiterate what I posited the morning Imus went after Scarborough - and I didn't know about Imus's Scarborough smackdown.  Citadel - which owns WABC - was blindsided by satellite radio rivals Sirius/XM simulcasting MSNBC content on both Sirius and XM channels.  "Morning Joe" is nothing more than three hours of talk radio with pictures.  Why continue the terrestrial WABC Radio show and pay the duo big bucks when "Morning Joe" defects to the satellite radio competition now airing live the same show WABC is offering but earlier the same day and one hour longer?  What I don't get is why Citadel and WABC are party to concealing the show's cancellation with the laughable "on hiatus" to be "retooled and expanded."

Ergo the hasty yanking of the show by Citadel a few days after the "Morning Joe" Sirius/XM promos hit.  "Why Joe Scarborough & Mika Brzezinski's WABC Radio Show Is Dead.

I suspect the show was underperforming in all 22 markets, but I haven't been able to get my hot hands on the affiliate list or Arbitron numbers.  In April 2009 Scarborough's WABC show was added to Citadel's WMAL news/talk station and run live 10a-12noon, but later booted to tape delay 9p-12mid.  Now it's gone altogether.

  1. I'm reminded of when Ben Bradlee, then Newsweek's white house correspondent, learned that LBJ was gonna fire J. Edgar Hoover, and went with it. Johnson, pissed at being upstaged, held a news conference, naming Hoover FBI Director for life. And as Lyndon walked past Bradlee, the President said, "Fuck You".
So...could all of this Joe and Mika are dead talk, force WABC into keeping the duo, at least awhile, just to save face?
Naah..I don't think so either. But still...

  2. No, I don't think so, Jim. Joe and Mika went with WABC's rivals - a cardinal sin.

WABC, for some reason, is allowing Joe and Mika to save face by not admitting the show has been sent to Davy Jones Locker.

  4. I disagree with the assertion that "Morning Joe" on TV was/is the same as "Joe & Mika" on radio.

Mr. Scarborough's opinions seemed restrained on MSNBC compared to WABC radio. It's as if he was free to speak his mind on radio, but had to be reserved on TV. He often sounded more like a Moderate on TV and more like a Conservative on radio, based on whenever I listened to both shows on the same day.

Despite his assertions, however, the ratings don't lie, and neither did Don Imus.
