Shrinking Family Jewels

NBC was smart to develop a cable news platform in 1996. Something that ABC and CBS should've had done. Hindsight is 20/20, no? CBS has made cuts. Last week ABC News announced the dumping a quarter of the 1,200 employees while $400 mil profit-a-year NBC "remains the envy of the business."  Why?  Bill Carter/Brian Stelter NYT

TVbythenumbers's Robert Seidman spins the NYTimes piece. His colleague Bill Gorman gushes that former CBS News president Andrew Heyward's Big Three as leaky boat analogy is "priceless."

I'm too lazy today to come up with a funny "leaky boat" headline.  CB is challenging YOU.  Any takers?  One of my favorites:  "Loose Lips Sink Shits." How about "Ship Of Fools."

  1. But, wasn't FOX the smartest for developing a successful cable news channel?

  2. NBC can thank Bob Wright for it's cable initiative's. he had cable on his radar from day one after ge bought nbc. I remember the first meeting I had with him when he visited the nbc o&o I was managing he had extensive questions on the cable operators in the market, our relationship with them. of course his experience with cox cable gave him so pretty good insight.

  3. And, Anon, who gunned successfully for Bob Wright's job? Jeff Zucker. Wright's still on the board, isn't he?
