Roll out the yellow police crime scene tape and surround Fox News NYC HQ. Might as well make it official: It seems White House hacks not only have dismissed Fox as "not a news network" in the war the ring of Obama, Anita Dunn, Gibbs, Axelrod et al. launched against the #1 cable news operation while Mao-loving Dunn was still WH comm dir, but have encircled Fox figuratively like a mummy.
At the time I marveled at the foolishness of taking on Fox News. The move only confirmed what I've heard from WH press sources about the astonishing naivete and hubris of Obama and his henchmen. Good at winning elections; abyssmal at governing.
Politico's Mike Allen: President Obama sits down at the White House this afternoon with Bret Baier, anchor of Fox News' 'Special Report' and former chief White House correspondent. A White House official: 'Many of the falsehoods and myths about health reform gained traction with Glenn Beck and others on FOX, so the President is returning to the scene of the crime to make the final sale. As we have said, we will work with Fox where it serves our communications interests, and this does.' The interview is sure to have a huge echo effect because of past White House criticism of Fox, and is a creative way to break through the health care white noise. Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer offered the interview to Baier on Monday.
Politico's Michael Calderone regurgitates Obama press czar Robert Gibbs begrudgingly conceding at Tuesday's WH press briefing that, yeah, Fox has a huge audience.
So Obama's Mr. Bojangles health care semantic tap dancing act is performed tonight on Bret Baier's Fox "Special Report." Dude, you're being used. But I'm not telling you anything you don't know. Fox and Glenn Beck shouldering the blame for Obama's legacy cake out in the rain? Seriously? Obama's blame game is seriously rivaling the Clintons.
All the sweet green icing flowing down.... Someone left the cake out in the rain. I don't think that I can take it. 'Cause it took so long to bake it. And I'll never have that recipe again. Oh, no! Oh, no No, no Oh NO!!
I divine a parallel between Obama's hell-bent ego obsession for universal health care, House and Senate Dem election suicidal "Deem Team," (new NBC/WSJ poll with Congress's approval at 17%), and Jimmy Webb's "MacArthur's Park" most notably recorded in 1968 by Richard Harris - and deemed the worst song ever by discerning musicologists
This health care debacle will go down as the worst legislative and executive deviousness in history. Silver lining: House Dems arm-twisted into voting for this abhorrent 2,700 piece of what amounts to legislative gerrymandering will find themselves in line for minimum wage Walmart greeter gigs.
No matter how the White House spins it, Fox News wins the war. Fox viewers (and the rest of irate Americans clogging the Capitol Hill's phone lines) wouldn't be moved if Obama presented Bret Baier with newly unearthed stone tablet Rx pads, deeming it was written centuries B.C.
I thought I was hallucinating when, languishing in my sick bed yesterday, I was informed Obama had gone hat in hand with his tin cup, health care House votes seriously deficient, begging to talk to Fox viewers. I laughed so hard my lungs nearly collapsed.
NYT Wednesday: President Obama will give a rare interview on Wednesday to Fox News, the cable network that a top administration official once accused of being a political arm of the Republican Party. The interview, with Bret Baier, an anchor and a former chief White House correspondent for Fox, will be broadcast at 6 p.m., at the height of a week in which Democrats, including Mr. Obama, are pressing allies and lawmakers to push ahead to get the health care bill passed in the House despite solid Republican opposition and the lessening of public support for the legislation. At the briefing on Tuesday, Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, was asked if the president believed he could really change the minds of viewers who watch Fox. It is “certainly worth a shot,” Mr. Gibbs said, adding that Mr. Obama was well aware that wavering Democrats and their constituents tuned in to the network.

What has he got to lose? Not his dignity, certainly, nor any pretensions of bipartisanship. Who knows, he might just influence a final deciding vote on what he's bet a second term about.
ReplyDeleteAs is always the case, Jimbo again speaks The Truth. It's a good move.
ReplyDeleteBret Baier is interviewing obama right now and is asking the questions nobody else would. OUR president is filibustering like a pro.
ReplyDeleteLast time I checked he was elected the President of all the people, even Fox viewers? Not just the people who agree with him.
