MSNBC's Chump Change

Let me preface this scathing review of MSNBC's Massachusetts Senate election coverage with this:  recall this week how new Obama comm dir Dan Pfeiffer parroted the Anita Dunn line that Fox News isn't a real news organization because it has a "point of view."

Now comes Miami Herald's Glenn Garvin with this stunning rebuke and vid to back it up:

Watching coverage of the Massachusetts senatorial election Tuesday night, I wondered if MSNBC was getting ready to cut off its cable signal to the state. Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow, positively enraged that Massachusetts dared to elect a Republican, delivered two hours of nonstop bilious rage toward the state's voters, calling them "irrational" and "teabaggers," engaged in "a total divorce from reality," and hinting that they're vicious racists to boot.

It may be too much to expect NBC, these days reduced to a national wisecrack, to be embarrassed over the frothing lunacy that passes for news coverage at corporate stepchild MSNBC. But both networks are part of the same news division. If news boss Steve Capus thinks his reporters can continue to appear with Olbermann and Maddow without suffering credibility contamination, he's dumber than whoever was behind the Leno/O'Brien late-night shuffle.

The bigger picture, in my view, is  liberalism is dead.  MSNBC's "point of view" harangues will reach fewer viewers.  Scott Brown's election effectively rendered MSNBC impotent.  Both Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow found themselves figuratively castrated Tuesday night.  Or put it this way, MSNBC's election coverage was nothing more than a primal scream.

Within hours of Brown's election, Barack Obama ripped off his Hart Shaffner & Marx custom suit and wrapped himself in a false cloak of populism.   Don't expect MSNBC to follow suit.

  1. Wow some reporter actually checked his pants and found the set of balls he was born with.

So how long will it be until Keith Olbermann makes this dude his "Worst Person in the World?" like anyone rational person would give a rat's ass.

  4. Ho is Keith Olbermann employed in anything related to the news? I don't understand it. Does he have something on someone over there? Surely, the ones in control (and obviously no one is)are somewhat concerned about him. Does MSNBC or NBC for that matter care, or have they all ready split?

  6. Really. But not just Olbermann, but maddow and others are almost just as bad. It's just plain evil to insult people the way they do. Do you think for one minute they would say those things to someone's face. No, I think not because not too many people would put up with it. They don't stop at blasting public figures but now have moved to cussin' out voters if they don't vote the way they want. They have crossed the line so far you can't even look back and see it.

But after that performance, do you think many voters in Massachusetts will actually watch the channel, even if they did before? I think not.

  7. Olbermann, Maddow, Matthews and most of MSNBC will end up with an audience almost as big as Air America.

  8. sometimes you win by losing. years ago I tried to hire Capus to fill my open news director position. He declined and I hired a young guy who was a GREAT ND and has gone on to succesfully manage three different local TV station. Steve thanks for keeping me from a terrible mistake.

  9. I am going to do a feature as socially relevant as "Worst Person In The World". It'll be called "I Touched My Ass".

As you read this, I am waiting by the phone for the offers...

  10. The MSNBC implosion will be so good, they could put it on pay per view.

  11. And by the way, let's not forget how we got in our current mess:
    1. an unpopular war
    2. an unpopular president
    3. the worst economic meltdown in 75 years.
    4. a lot of doofus voters who went into Gross National Temper Tantrum mode and voted for "change".
And now those same voters are saying, "Gee, I didn't mean that kind of change." See what happens when you don't pay attention, folks?
