James Quello Exits The Planet

One of the finest people in the broadcasting business has died.  My friend Jim Quello.  Jim worked in Michigan broadcasting before his long career as an FCC commissioner.  He was 95.

Quello, first appointed in 1974, was referred to as "The Dean" of the FCC and served as acting chairman before Reed Hundt.

In 1998 Michigan State University named a media research center after Jim and his late wife Mary.

RBRNational Association of Broadcaster President/CEO Gordon Smith was one of the first to offer a tribute to Quello, saying, "NAB mourns the passing of Jim Quello, who was a war hero, a friend to free and local broadcasting, and an extraordinarily bipartisan public servant during a remarkable 24 years at the FCC. We have lost an American original."

What the powerful and influential have said about Jim in the past.
