After bashing NBC for two weeks a classy exit by Conan O'Brien. Watch it here. A NYDN reader poll shows a majority think Conan's next stop is Fox.
Before he got classy Conan's band played a brassy version of the Beatles "Lovely Rita" as actor Tom Hanks walked out (Tom's wife is Rita Wilson). The stunt cost NBC a half mil in royalties:
Earlier in his swan song week Conan used the royalty-rich Stones "Satisfaction" as a music bed to introduce his new "character" - Bugatti Veyron Mouse. NBC cost? $1.5 mil.
Conan's $45 mil exit deal keeps him off the air until September 1st. Jay Leno's last 10p show is February 11. He returns to the "Tonight" show March 1.
Next Thursday Leno appears on Oprah to persuade people he's really a good guy not a manipulating, conniving prick.

ReplyDeleteFYI, Conan's website has been running a contest about what job offer he should take. Of 6 offers, the leader is currently "sidekick for Y-94 FM in Fargo, North Dakota". I interviewed their program director. They offered Conan minimum wage, which would come to about $15,000 a year, or roughly half what Conan earned per Tonight Show.
