Liberal radio talker Bill Press vows to reapply after the Congressional Radio-TV Correspondents' Galleries board denied his application for press credentials. An Al Jazeera reporter is on the board: “I think being called biased by Al Jazeera is like being called ugly by a frog.”
Press tells Poltico's Michael Calderone that the decision is "bizarre." Bill, you're my friend and I love ya, but you f**ked up violating the rule against what amounts to lobbying Congress. Maybe it was conservative Salem Radio Network's doing (an SRN reporter is on the board). Just suck it up and move on.

Lieberman is an I-CT, not I-VT.
ReplyDeleteApparently he didn't think the CR-TVCG membership criteria also applied to him.
ReplyDeleteGive the credentials folks for having standards, in an era when nobody else seems to. I know Bill and I like Bill, and I suspect others who've done similar things may have gotten credentials. But the fact is, Bill is an advocate--always has been--and those people should not be given reporters passes.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Jim. Bill sez he applied in April 2009 and was contacted in November - after he put that lobbying thing on his website. He got the bad news in the Dec. 8 letter.
ReplyDeleteAn rather long application process, no?
Yes, it's a very long application process, maybe too long to be credible, but I can't believe Bill's website wasn't always laden with advocacy. It's who he is--what he does. That doesn't make him bad, just not a journalist.
