TV Guide lost me out of the box in dual profiles of Keith Olbermann and Bill O'Reilly: "One of the most visible rivalries of the decade — a conflict that may be rooted more in their similarities than differences. Both talk show hosts are former straight news reporters....."
Olbermann was NEVER a straight news reporter. He toiled in the toy department - sports.
And he stole all he knows about hosting a cable TV program from (drum roll) - Bill O'Reilly! It was O’Reilly who created this genre and it was Olbermann who tried to mimmick him in every sense but still could never and will never achieve an ounce of success that O’Reilly has.
Read Olbermann's profile here where he appears to be kissing up to new owners Comcast: "Most of my disagreements and most of the reputation I have for being disagreeable with employers was predicated on really worthwhile debate that they would engage me with. And I didn't realize to the degree that they were being generous in doing that, and respectful in doing that. And when I didn't get my way, I normally would just go public with it. Which was just ridiculous. I really don't understand why more people didn't hit me in the head with a brick."
As for Bill, he's most proud of never having to retract a story in 13 years. Least proud: going "over the line" sometimes but he doesn't "beat" himself up over it.

Oh, to own the brick franchise...
ReplyDeleteHow about a mortar-buttered brick in his beam?
ReplyDeleteI heard there is a new game called Brick a Dick.
ReplyDeleteWhich one is the brick head and which one is the dick head?
ReplyDeleteI was just reading Rick Goldschmidt's book about Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, about how Rankin/Bass didn't have to worry about financing that project, because GE started their "new" branch company "Tomorrow Entertainment". They helped finance such projects as Rudolph for what was then their "GE Fantasy Hour".
ReplyDeleteHow things changed in those 40+ years.
Looks like Keith is kissing Comcast butt to keep off the Island of Misfit Reporters...
