Pulitzer Prize-winning Wash Post fashion columnist Robin Givhan is about as shameless in this Michelle Obama Olympics pimp as the First Lady was in choosing two gold costumes to sway the IOC. The NYT is fingering the U.S. Olympics Committee as the fall guy in Chicago sucking hind tit. The USOC and IOC have a rocky relationship. If losing was a fait accompli, then why did Chicago pledge $75 mil in a failed bid to get 2016?
Sunday's Chicago Tribune quoted Obama BFF and White House heavy Valerie Jarrett blaming the USOC for arm-twisting Obama to make a personal appearance. I think the buck stops with Valerie Jarrett who arrogantly assured the world "there won't be a dry eye in the house" when Michelle Obama finishes her sob story pitch to the IOC.
Notice the dry eyes dried up?
Trib columnist Bob Verdi: This fly-by from President Obama might be perceived as a yet another example of American arrogance, but again, the IOC is steeped in hubris. The mere notion that the leader of the free world, genuflecting before these empty suits to curry ballots, was deemed either nice or necessary is patently odious. It tells you is how self-absorbed the IOC is, and how mesmerized we all have become by the "Olympic movement."
Rush Limbaugh had a different take:
The Wash Post should've run today's "Five Myths Of Hosting The Olympics" before, not ex post facto.
