Hit The Road, Jack

Pulitizer Prize-winning LA Times investigative reporter Jack Nelson exits the planet.  Pancreatic cancer.  Jack was 80 and one of the most highly-respected scribes in DC.  I spent some time with him once.  A real straight-shooter.  Honorable man. (1989 photo)

  1. Jack was a semi-regular on my Year in Review program (Marty--come back on the panel!).
He always gave valuable and incisive insight, although he didn't always leave the building well. After one YIR program, Jack marched out through our building's sliding doors, by PUSHING them open! They do that--in an emergency--but it fouled up the security system til the next morning!
At the Reporters' Committee for Freedom of the Press recent Barbecue with a View, we all signed a giant 80th birthday card. Hope he got to enjoy it.
    We miss you, Jack.
