Glenn Beck: Fox's "Toxic Asset?"

There's more to this Glenn Beck boycott than meets the eye.  I find instigator James Rucker's claims that Obama Greens Jobs Czar Van Jones knew nothing about this. Somebody in the WH is in on this concerted effort  to neutralize the Fox ratings magnet.  I'd make book Rahm Emanuel has a Nixonesque media "Enemies List" and Beck's on it.

David Bauder APBeck supporters have suggested that retaliation might have something to do with ColorofChange.org's campaign. One of the group's founders, Van Jones, now works in the Obama administration and has been criticized by Beck. But Rucker said Jones has nothing to do with ColorofChange.org now and didn't even know about the campaign before it started. Beck's strong ratings — even at 5 p.m. EDT he often outdraws whatever CNN and MSNBC show in prime-time — make it unlikely Beck is going anywhere even with the list of advertisers avoiding him approaches three dozen.

But it could mean advertising time becomes cheaper on his show than such a large audience would normally command. Some of his show's advertisers last week included a male enhancement pill, a law firm looking to sue on behalf of asbestos victims, a company selling medical supplies to diabetics and a water filter company.

  1. The Fox sales department needs to go to sponsors look Coors and say "Here's not only your chance to sell more beer, but stick it to Obama at the same time". PLENTY of advertisers would go for that. Check FEC campaign contribution lists for sales leads.

  2. In the long run, it's going to be the advertisers who are going to looking stupid.

If I was in sales, I would start contacting the competitors of the companies that have pulled out. Lay it on the line and say "Such and such isn't advertising any more, so why don't you fill the void or step up to this spot to get your name out to a very large demo."

This can, and I believe, will backfire on the advertisers. Beck has the numbers and then some, Fox News isn't going to let him go anytime soon, and the president's poll numbers continue t drop. As long as this whispering about colorofchange.com continues with people talking about it, it's going to be revealed and everyone will see who was behind it.
Just like the unsolicited health care emails from the WH.
My advice for sales is to go about the competitors.

  3. My Letter to Geico:

Your decision to so easily cave in to the special interest group ColorofChange.org is disturbing to me. As of now I am shopping for other automobile coverage for my automobiles and am even willing to pay more to make my point. I also have many acquaintances in the military who share my point of view and am also encouraging them to reconsider using Geico for insurance. I would think that a company who caters to and emphasized their service to the military would have a firmer grasp on the views of their customers. Many of us support Glenn Beck and what he does to ensure that all sides of debate are covered. Do you really intend to monitor the speech of every tv show your commercials appear on? Do you advertise on 24? Did you know one of it's stars recently called anyone who protests government spending and taxation as "teabagging rednecks"? Do you even know what "teabagging" is reference to? Do you tolerate that behavior by one of the programs that you sponsor. If that is what you intend to do, I'll be sure to help you out by pointing out any and all offensive comments on any programs that your commercials happen to air on. Perhaps you should watch MSNBC some night and listen to some of the comments about former President Bush that YOU sponsor. So you really want to raise the ire of a group of people who share conservative values. I'm certain that a more careful look into the issue was warranted vice a knee-jerk reaction based on one comment made by Beck.

  4. Wonder what else Obama's henchmen are threatening these Beck advertisers?

    Pussies.
