2009 Radio Hall of Famers

Dr. Demento one of a handful of radio legends inducted into the 2009 Radio Hall of Fame.  November ceremony in Chicago hosted by my former Detroit TV news colleague, George Noory, who now makes megabucks hosting Premiere Radio Networks' syndicated "Coast to Coast" UFO paranormal talk radio show, proving there is life after TV news.  Hall of Famer Jim Bohannon will be the announcer of the event.  Willard Scott will be there to present the award to his fellow DC "Joy Boys" Ed Walker.

George and I were both in our mid-twenties in Detroit's WJBK-TV newsroom.  George later went to KSTP TV in St. Louis as news director.  After he was canned, George, who had anchored radio news in Detroit, talked a local radio station into letting him do overnights.  George christened himself "The Nighthawk", ended up filling in for the syndicated Art Bell, and permanently replacing Bell when he retired.

Last time I saw George at a radio industry function (right) he rolled up in a stretch limo and just wanted to talk about the good old days in Detroit...

  1. As the announcer for the RHOF, it'll be my biggest thrill to induct blind DC radio veteran Ed Walker, whose old "Joy Boys" partner, Willard Scott, will induct Ed into the hall. The nationwide radio broadcast is Saturday night, November 9th.
