I refuse to get sucked into the Sarah Palin speculation. I'll say one thing: my first thought was that by stepping down from office she leaves public figuredom that left her open for slander and libel.

Yeah. Pregnant with political possibilities...

She looks like a quitter who can't stand the heat. That'll do her no good trying for the presidency in 2012, or even trying to bump off another Murkowski(Lisa for 2010 senate). It doesn't add up, unless she's been screwing with Mark Sanford and John Ensign, sort of a menage au gop.
Yeah, she does, Jim. Perhaps you're right about some sort of sex scandal. Maybe she's realized her soul mate is Greta Van Susteren.
I'm going to video myself in a tearful "Leave Britney Alone" and post it on YouTube. "Leave Sarah Alone."
Should I dress up like Michael Jackson?
Jimbo nails it. She does look like a quitter. If she's going t step down....and then not say what's next...the speculation--as I'm doing--starts to take hold. And that can become bigger than the truth. This wasn't thought out whatsoever. Is she from South carolina...
I'm hoping that she has no political future, and is the local Wal-Mart manager in another year or two...
At least dear Sara finally burried Jocko everywhere but CNN. Of course King is still wallowing in death. Will nothing stop hte Corpse news Network in their rehashing a singers death?
Rather than label her a quitter, I presume instead that she may prefer to divest herself from the office to spend time in the lower 48 for fund-raising; that, or she's seen what the correctly-termed libel and slander are doing to her husband and kids and thinks enough is enough. If it's the second scenario, that's not quitting, that's actually putting your family ahead of ambition. But we shall see one way or the other.
She's going to spend the next dozen or so years raising funds for the GOP (and, perhaps, a third party), doing TV, listening to voters and learning about things. Maybe a little cosmetic work along the way. Some of the idiots' mouths will shrink when she has a regular forum that dwarfs theirs.
This girl is not a quitter. She's a lot smarter than the talking heads give her credit for. If you want to talk dumb, think of our VP. That's dumb. Those idiot McCain staffers are dumb enough to blame her for his loss. It would have been a real disaster without her. She's not Ivy League, but Mainstream America isn't either.- Vinney
Perception is everything. It doesn't matter how significant or noble her reasons are, she walked out of an office that she was elected to, and will now be a tremendous burden to overcome if she decides to engage in an electoral process again.
One hopes that any perceptions will be informed by the fact that she has a special needs child, a son in Iraq, and a grandchild on the way. Not to mention the First Dude is probably on the verge of tearing off a few MSM heads.
Rogue, the perception will be if she quit as a governor, would she do the same if things got tough in a higher office? Nobody knows.
If she quit for personnal reasons...fine. But it just eliminated her chances to run for president. It's too bad, because she brought an excitement to the McCain ticket, and personally kept the 08 election closer than what it would have been. Those dissident McCain/Palin staffers should personally be thanking her instead of bashing, since she saved the GOP from annihilation at the voting booth.
I understand what you're saying, but I don't think it holds any water. One of the knocks against her was that she was a hick governor from nowhere. Leaving nowhere and the hick office won't worsen the opinions of those who were already looking down their noses at her, and it won't matter to those who supported her.
If she wants it, she'll have the opportunity to learn all those things she supposedly didn't know (another bullshit criticism), make contacts, raise money, etc. Bottom line, she has an electoral track record, she can get elected, she's beaten haters in AK and can beat them again. And there isn't exactly a long line of GOP contenders out there who can actually get things done, like getting elected. Romney could do the job as prez, but he can't get elected to the office.
Look folks Obama was not your typical white male politician (duh). May be some pundits will have to look outside their little convenient boxes to realize that it ain't business like it used to be. The new generation chnages occupations like sox any more. The 30 year career with one company is just about out with GM.
Business leaders have been doing it for years--leaving the current situation for a different one. Why not politicians. Palin isn't as dumb as some would make out to be. Infact she is as sly as a fix. I don't see her going softly into that good night. You may be run over by the Pailin express.
Something she said during her speech I thought was somewhat telling & that was she stated that her & her staff spent 80% of their time countering baseless ethics complaints and other garbage being thrown at her. Now that she will be soon out of office folks in the Barry's butt-boy media crowd will not be able to trash her add-nauseum without looking ridiculously petty and vindictive themselves. Although I feel they crossed that Rubicon long ago...

Are you delusional or brain dead? Both maybe?
I was set to vote for McCain before his idiotic VP pick.
Sarah Palin destroyed the republican's chances of winning the election.
Open your eyes man.
Greg, you're speaking personally.
The polls said otherwise. Polls are inaccurate, but it's the only method available for tracking such things. McCain would have gotten beat by a much larger number if it wasn't for Palin.
Hey Greg,
You said "I was set to vote for McCain before his idiotic VP pick."
So you didn't vote? Or did you vote for Obama instead? Either way, you're a chump who obviously doesn't have political convictions. you're the one that's delusional.
