Now, if today's raft of nationwide tax day tea party protests were anti-war protests, do you think NBC's Chuck Todd would blithely blab to the "Today" show's Matt Lauer that "the idea really hasn't caught on."??
It's caught on with me and mine we are going to tea partys.
Governor Rick Perry has already stuck his finger in the air, and figured out which way the wind is blowing. That is what it is about vote in responsible candidates that will stop the out of control spending from the ground up, local to federal. There are elections coming up at every Government level does Nancy, Harry and Barack really think people don't notice their pockets are being picked?
When was the last time a Government tried to spend it's way out of Debt and it worked? Answer NEVER. And Argentina got an ugly wake up call, when subsequent Hyper Inflation hit...maybe Americans don't want to follow the Argentina model. Some of us can see whats coming, and don't want to ride the Progressive Bus to Ruin.
It's good theater but the better point to make is that whatever we spend, we pay for. We have military threats around the world, an aging infrastructure, an entitlement logjam of boomers about to retire, and $40,000 in national debt for every man, woman, and child in the country. Even if we scrapped every single bit of discretionary spending, from medical care to farm subsidies to park rangers, we'd still have such huge expenditures that we MUST pay for, that we'd have to either raise taxes or keep dumping the bill on our kids and grandkids. What we really need are 3 things: 1. A balanced budget federal amendment with real teeth (or better yet, a surplus budget amendment kicking 1% of federal revenues to the national debt except in times of declared war, etc). 2. A line item veto for the president, like 40-some governors have. 3. A ban on all non-germaine amendments to legislation (earmarks). If you had those 3 things, americans would finally be forced to do something we so dearly hate: MAKE CHOICES. But despite all the whining, we really love the free lunch, with our progeny picking up the tab. And we'd vote right out of office anyone who'd make us face this reality.
went to a "tea party" today in a relativley small town, pop.7200 in western michigan. I was very surprised at the large turnout which was a mix of teen/college age kids, familes, older folks. the rally was without incident. everyone was well behaved. all speakers absent one were not politicans. the rally was put together by 3 young women and a young guy. overall it was nonpartisan with most signs reflecting the disgust those in attendance had with the excessive spending in washington. the MSM can spin it any way they want but it is happening and they will not be able to ignore it forever.

Paul Begala and Neil Cavuto.
ReplyDeletePaul Begala spinning tax day tea partys like a whirling dervish. Neil Cavuto gets some good shots at Imus.

ReplyDeleteLaree..
ReplyDeleteAs a Texan, I'v seen Perry check the politial winds quite often... and changes his position to match.
If these tea parties are big, he'll support them. Hutchison is serious competition in '10.
