CNN Disemboweled

Jon Klein: Take Charles Grassley's advice to bonus boners AIG: save face by committing Hara-Kiri. CNN's ratings are sucking hind tit. Why not do it on-air? Sure to be a ratings blockbuster...

CNN has been on a severe ratings slide – finishing 4th or 5th in the prime time (8:00 – 11:00pm ET) 25-54 demographic behind FNC, MSNBC, HLN. This past Friday, March 13th, they even finished 5th behind CNBC. According to Nielsen, CNN has finished 4th or 5th in the prime time demo 7 out of the first 15 day in the calendar month of March. They finished 4th or 5th on March 2, 3, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13.

  1. Say what you will about alleged CNN bias, but in the world of talk tv they're the closest thing there is to objectivity. And proof again that the brain-dead American public would rather chow down on pre-digested pablum than digest actual facts. We've got problems in this country, folks: The demise of newspapers, whose website version will never have the reporting resources the print version did...the end of gatekeepers, replaced by the riffraff rabble with stray opinions having only accidental connection to fact...and a generally ignorant, apathetic citizenry. Which doesn't even address our willingness to throw aside our borders while we spend ourselves into 3rd world status. I wouldn't give better than 60-40 odds that something remotely resembling the United States exists a century from now.
    We have problems.

  4. That's why CNN is sucking hind tit in the ratings, Jim. They tried getting MSNBC-y with Campbell Brown at 8p but that flopped big time.

Thigh High: Someday we'll be treated to live suicide on American TV. I just hope it's Keith Olbermann...

  5. You will recall that CNN spent tons of money on technology to report what was known weeks in advance, Obama would win. Holographic images not needed and added nothing. Perhaps some of this money could have been used for a different approach or angle of the election. Good hard journalism.
Jimbo, you are right, Americans are becoming a polarized group which only wants to hear what they want to hear what it wants and have it in a 30 second sound bite. Didn't the demise of newspapers start years ago with the McPaper (USA Today) with colors flashing, short articles, and virtually no analysis. CNN invested in gimmicks but it does not seem to have paid off. I too am worried.
