I owe my former DC radio colleague Don Hanzlik a major apology. In 2000 Don predicted XM would never make it. I disagreed, contending that radio icon Lee Abrams wouldn't sign on to a losing deal.Lee bolted to Sam Zell's troubled Tribune Co. in the same position he had at XM - Chief Innovation Officer - whatever the hell that is. And the now-merged Sirius XM is filing for bankruptcy with a hostile takeover by EchoStar in the offing.
Blame Howard Stern's half-billion dollar Sirius deal?
I like my built-in Sirius radio so I can listen to FNC or CNN on my drive home. Its only other value that I can think of is when I'm traveling far enough to lose the regular radio signals.
ReplyDeleteI've never once listened to Howard Stern... for a "shock jock" he's boring. I'd SIRIUSly listen to ChickieBoo if she had a show, though.
Gee, Al, maybe I'll get a show someday - but I'm not sure if I want to get back on that horse.
ReplyDeleteMaybe DirecTV will step in like we're hearing and save satellite radio...
I think it would be entertaining to hear you comment in the same manner that you write, with the occasional colourful language that's not allowed over regular airwaves. But no, I doubt you want to do that.
ReplyDeleteI don't think satellite radio will be a growing industry, at least not until we have a booming economy again.
Marty needs to podcast. Also be a guest on my show more.
