Stop the "permanent construction" of Obama Senate successor's official website. [official photo, right]"...it's looking like Burris's tenure in the Senate will be short-lived, as none of this bodes well for his 2010 reelection bid. But it won't be for naught — he still gets to put "Senator" on his creepy mausoleum, even if he was a terrible one. NY mag
The Senate Ethics Committee is now probing Roland Burris appointed to Obama's Senate seat by the infamous Blago: "Burris’s admission that he tried to raise money for former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich had both parties taking swipes at the viability of a 2010 Burris candidacy, with one prominent Democratic strategist suggesting the revelations will help the party recruit a stronger candidate for the seat. Party leaders had initially planned to support Burris, the strategist said, but “a lot has changed.”“We know the Republicans are salivating, but I’m not sure they should be,” said the Democratic source. “This is far from the ‘Apocalypse of the Illinois Senate seat.”A senior GOP aide dismissed that as “pure spin,” noting that Burris stridently insisted on being seated and has resisted any efforts to remove him ever since. And as investigations become possible at the state and federal levels, the aide said Burris will inevitably become more weakened. The Hill
Before he was seated Burris claimed he had nothing to do with Blago. He's changed his story five times since then. Wash Post
I predict that any investigation by the Senate Ethics Committee will take 2 years. Their findings will be announced one day after Senator Burris retires from the Senate.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be tough to speed up Ol' Grady's departure back to Sanford & Son. Damn near impossible to get rid of a black, dishonest democrat. Ask Marion Barry or Cold Cash Jefferson to name just a couple.
ReplyDeleteTim,
ReplyDeleteHell, the Democrats are probably on the verge of nominating Burris for the Nobel Peace Prize for healing Illinois of political hurt. Lying seems to be in the DNA of all pols from Illinois.
I just can't see what the problem is here. He's from Chicago. This is supposed to happen. He's done everything just beautifully so far and all the high brows are suddenly in a tizzy. It t'is what it t'is.
ReplyDeleteApparently the voters of Illinois like having their lives governed by crooks. Mostly they've been Dem crooks, but even former Speaker Hastert weaseled his way into a corrupt and lucrative land deal.
ReplyDeleteSo that's the way it is with Chicago politicians and, unfortunately, it appears that is also the way it is with our president.
Reform in Chicago politics may be defined as making sure that the only dead people who vote are registered.
ReplyDeletePrediction: Burris will be forced out of the Senate. You watch...
ReplyDeleteWhat an Illinois politician being thrown out of office or even convicted and put in jail. Marty, surely you jest?
