How much post-bailout, or the now politically correct "economic rescue" congratulatory backslapping can Joe Sixpack endure? Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid gushed bipartisanship after tonight's 74-25 victory vote for "Main Street, the mean streets" and not Wall Street. Senate Republican leaders Mitch McConnell and Judd Gregg got in on the circle jerk before the cameras. 15 Repubs and nine Dems voted no. PoliticoHouse members who voted down the $700 bailout last week have their dicks in a wringer, embarassed big time by the lofty, crafty bipartisan-thumping Senate. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (100 grand in political campaign dough economic rescue of her husband under scrutiny) doomed any remote chance of the 100-page House version's passage by her rant accusing Republicans of being "unpatriotic." When push comes to shove, when the economy's about to go down the toilet, Pelosi's partisanship was appalling. So the Senate sticks it to Pelosi and House Democrats - some of whom will be forced to change their vote. The House needs about 15 change agents to pass the 450-page Senate bill. All House members are up for re-election. Those in swing districts and unsafe seats can kiss their political asses goodbye if they vote yes. About a third of the Senate are up. The Senate appeared so disgusted with Pelosi that she and other top Dems were more or less left out of the loop on the Senate bill.
The Senate legislation raises bank insurance on your money from 100 grand to $250,000. There are some tax cuts and business exemptions. Corporate CEOs' golden parachutes are more like bronze.
It'll go to the House maybe as early as tomorrow. Members of Congress are itching to get out of town to campaign.
Barack Obama and John McCain ditched the campaign trail for the vote. All eyes were on Obama as he sidled over to McCain and shook his hand.

Bipartisanship sucks. Usually when the conservative members meet the liberals somewhere in the middle, we can screwed in both ends.
Screwed and no kisses... I hate that.
It's so much political spin bullshit, Al...
I always wonder, of all the Democrats, how did the "usual suspects" end up in charge? Pelosi, Frank, Schumer, Reid? There's a group of calming, unifying personalities!
Because, Alexander, their colleagues elected them to leadership positions. the committee chairs got there by seniority and sucking up...
