By the way....hear how the pretty blond anchor called the handsome black anchor "Boy"? "By the way, Craig is a great dancer. He's fooling around there. That boy can move!"
I've been complaining for years about how hard I had to work to neutralize my Bklyn born regional accent and how there are just no standards for how broadcasters should sound.
I guess we can blame the dance moves and the sloppy look on the "holiday" schedule.
No, I didn't hear what the blonde chick said. Holiday sked probably is the culprit.
There used to be standards as to how broadcasters should sound. BC. Before Cable. And the standards change with each generation, it seems. Used to be all the network dudes came from the Midwest. Reasoner et al. They managed to eradicate the most annoying Midwestern accent traits. The hard, drawn-out vowels. I know. I had to work hard to get rid of my annoying Midwestern accent.
I think the broadcasting biz is much more forgiving and lenient than in years gone by. Southern accents meant you were dumb. NY accents too ethnic. Midwestern accents grating.
When I was a TV anchor we were encouraged to emulate style, inflection, intonation. Like all chicks at one time were parroting the clipped authoritative delivery of Jessica Savitch.
We midwesterners always have that famous Motor City girl, Madonna, to look up to when we want to emulate her new and *improved* English accent and master the lost art of elocution.
