NBC is throwing Stone Phillips into the canned heap. The "Dateline NBC" anchor's contract isn't being renewed. He of the insincere looks, rolled eyes, nodding head. [MSNBC]The 52-year-old Phillips left ABC News and joined NBC in 1992. Phillips is the second NBC high-priced head to roll in recent weeks to save money. Weekend anchor John Siegenthaler got the boot. Now Lester Holt's doing double duty as "Weekend Today" host and weekend Nightly News anchor.
Insufferable Ann Curry will take the "Dateline" helm. Stone was barely tolerable. Curry is unwatchable. At one time "Dateline" produced five respectable shows a week. Now all we get is voyeuristic "To Catch A Predator."
